Restoring Lucknow's Urban Green Canopy
Rapid urban growth and infrastructural expansion in Lucknow have significantly depleted the historic city's tree cover, exacerbating summer heat island effects and winter smog levels. ITLC Foundation's Tree Plantation & Green Lucknow Initiative takes direct, community-anchored action to reverse this decline.
The Core Strategy
- Native Species Selection: We strictly prioritize deep-rooted, drought-hardy native Indian trees—including Neem, Peepal, Banyan, Jamun, Sheesham, and Gulmohar—which possess high survival rates in Gangetic plains soil without draining groundwater.
- 3-Year Adopt-a-Tree Protocol: Every sapling is secured with a protective tree guard and placed under the care of a dedicated neighborhood volunteer or student guardian who oversees weekly watering and organic composting.
- School & Community Drives: We organize weekend plantation campaigns where families, students, and local residents actively plant and name their own trees, fostering a sense of long-term environmental stewardship.
